ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Special Hockey program is open to skaters age 3-adult.
To give athletes with physical and developmental disabilities the opportunity to play the sport of ice hockey in an environment that is adapted to their level of play,
The season lasts from January through March at the Winston Salem Annex. The team practices on Sunday nights from 7:00 - 8:00.
Our hockey program is dependent parent involvement. Your efforts make our program possible so please consider becoming an on-ice coach or helper or an off-ice volunteer. If you are interested in helping, please click on the link at the top of the page.
WSYHA provides equipment to participants who do not have their own. Our equipment includes a helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, shin pads and a jersey.
Rental skates will also be available at the start of each lesson at no cost, courtesy of the Annex. Skates must be returned at the end of each practice. Good-fitting, quality skates can make a huge difference in your child’s enjoyment, so we strongly encourage all skaters to purchase their own pair.
Full hockey gear is required.
WSYHA is fortunate to have received a grant to provide Special Hockey once a week at no cost. (Not including USA Hockey Registration or any special equipment.)
There is a once a year USA Hockey fee of $45.00, but this fee is waived upon registration for first year players.
